My Wife The Writer

About My Wife

This letter is all about my wife. Her name is Amanda, we've been married for 17 years. For most of Amanda's life, she has wanted to be a writer. I've always admired and envied her certainty of what she wanted to do and accomplish in her life.

Amanda tried for many years to get her first book published. But she struggled to get an agent or find a publisher to give her a shot. After we had our first child Amanda decided she was sick of waiting for approval from others and we created our own publishing company, called Fever Streak Press, and she began writing a new book series, centered around the craziness and often absurdity of trying to navigate being a good parent for your kids. The series was called "The Tales of Imperfection".
To make a long story short, 2 of her next 3 books made the New York Times bestseller list. It didn't happen overnight, but from years of consistent tenacity. It was so amazing to see someone work so hard and then achieve a goal they always wanted. It reminded me of watching athletes compete in the Olympics. We only watch them for few minutes winning their medal, but what you don't see is all the years of dedication and practice that went into those few minutes of standing on the podium.

Amanda is known for writing humor. Her talent for comedy is a major reason why she made it onto the NY Times bestseller list, but what is unique to Amanda is that she just tells stories. The humor is not forced, it just comes out naturally once you pick up her book and begin to see the world through Amanda's eyes.
Last year Amanda began working on a new book series called Vagabonding with Kids. It's a travel humor series that illustrates the many fascinating trips my family has taken and continues to take across the globe, and the comedy that inevitably happens at every step of the way. It's entertaining and insightful at the same time as you learn about how our family travels and about the cultures and the destinations we explore
Book 1 of this series came out in August, and Book 2, which is all about our extended trip to Australia, was just released this week. I'm so proud of her, (see if you can tell in this video I posted about her on Facebook).

Of course the amazing news about my wife doesn't stop there. In addition to Book 3 coming out this spring about our adventure to the Amazon in Brazil, Amanda is in the process of recording the AUDIOBOOK for book 1 in the series. What is super awesome for her fans is that she is releasing this audiobook FOR FREE. You can listen to it on iTunes or Google Play and she'll be posting new chapters of the book every week.

Listen FREE Here or on iTunes

So if you're not a big reader or too busy these days, check out her audio book, I know you'll love it and you'll certainly learn a lot more about me, my wife, our two silly girls and how we managed to bend the rules of how we work and teach our children to lead the life we choose to live.
Amanda writes under the pen name "AK Turner", you can find her books everywhere online, but I always recommend visiting your local bookstore to pick up a copy, my favorite local store is Rediscovered Books. If you ended up reading or listening to any of Amanda's work, it would mean the world to her (and therefore to me as well), if you would review it and/or share it with others. What allows an author to continue to do what they love is having others who enjoy their work share and talk about it. Word of mouth recommendations is still the best marketing on the planet. And it can start with you :-)

Thanks again for allowing me to share my wife's story with you. Writing letters like this is one of the biggest ways I can directly help my wife follow her passion.

P.S. If you missed last week, my daughter started her own Podcast, it's called Girl Around The World. Each episode is super short, but (I think) they are super adorable as well. Check it out at EmiliaTurner.comor iTunes

Next week, I’ll be sharing about my recent interview with local icon - Ken Bass - who has been on the radio airwaves in Boise for over 30 years.
