Time to Celebrate | What Makes Me Sad Today

Why I feel sad today...
At the time of this writing there are only 3 weeks left before school starts for my girls. They are excited about school, thankfully. I know my wife is excited, she has been doing most of the heavy lifting this summer keeping the kids occupied, fed, etc. But part of me is a little saddened that summer is coming to a close soon. Maybe it's because I love spending time outdoors when the weather is warm, but also because we seem to have more moments like this...
Emilia brings in a trout, she and Ivy clean it, cook it, and eat it. Dad couldn't be more proud.
So far the girls seem to really enjoy finding new ways to make money. This summer they sold cold drinks, flowers, toys, and clothes that don't fit them anymore. Luckily, we have neighbors who are always willing to participate.
Of course, these types of cool moments can happen any time of the year, not just summer. But for kids it seems that they have the most time to be creative, to explore, to be free, in the summer. Maybe that is just an adult's perspective, since we are riddled with responsibility. I'm sure the kids can't wait to be older so they can make all the decisions on what they can eat, wear, watch on TV, etc.

Amanda and I at Brunch
There is something just special about watching the kids enjoy summer, so today I feel sad it is coming to a close so quickly. Summer is awesome, especially for the kiddos.

Time to Celebrate!
Amanda and I are celebrating our 16th wedding anniversary this week. We routinely take a whole week to celebrate (one day just doesn't seem adequate).

So we started the week with staying overnight at our favorite downtown hotel, and of course we went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, followed by brunch the next morning at our 2nd favorite restaurant. It was so much fun, I can't wait for the rest of the week...
